If you have AVG ZEN/Protection installed the old AVG2015 removal tool won't work (as I found out just now) you need to download this one here: https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?q=avg+remover+tool&urlname=How-to-uninstall-AVG&l=en_US this will remove all old AVG stuff including ZEN/Protection. I then managed to get the AVG2016 installer to run and now have successfully installed it.
