Installed Ultimate - computer will not go to standby

Hi Carl,
In order to analyze it please provide us with diagnostic output (run it after inducing described behavior) using this tool and please add detailed description of issue.

I installed AVG Ultimate on a Windows XP laptop.  It previously had a regular subscription of AVG Antivirus, with no problems.  Now, when I try to go to standby, the computer locks up on the screen that says it is shutting down.  I have to take the battery out to turn off the laptop.  I have already uninstalled AVG and reinstalled, with the same results.  If I turn off AVG before going to standby, it will let me shut down the computer without hanging up.  What is causing this?
