Hello Garth. Pleased to see that you appear to be now sorted. Thanks for returning to the Community & posting.
I am (was - see below)using AVG Antivirus (free Edition) 2015 on Windows XP. I tried to upgrade to the 2016 version and the installer failed. It did a pre instll and ended with a pictire and some words about "Welcome to AVG" The installer hung at this point even though on one occasion I left it all night. I tried temporaily disabling the fire wall - same result. I "restored" an old version of the registry - same result. I uninstalled AVG 2015 and now I cannot install ANY AVG antivirus. I have tried the install from the "run" prompt and from a "saved instll file" - still no result. How can I get AVG Antivirus (Free Edition) to install.?
I have used AVG for years without problems. I also have a second machine with XP and with the same setup regarding programs installed etc. and the AVG install for the 2016 version worked perfectly.
Please help me
!

Hello Garth,
I apologize for the inconvenience caused while installing AVG. I request you to click this link http://af-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe to download and run the AVG Remover tool.
Please select the AVG products which are shown in the remover tool window and then start remover process.
After the remover tool process is successfully finished, I request you to restart your pc.
After the restart, I request you to manually delete the AVG Remover folder in the C drive of Mycomputer.
Now, try to install AVG Antivirus free in your system and you will be good to go. Please have a look at this article http://avgread.me/1cvJ6DX to install AVG Antivirus free 2016 version.
Thank you.
