Installing 2016 AVG Free Trial for the first time

I installed 2016 AVG free trail offer. After installing it stated that it will need to reboot. After that lap top kept freezing up. Started in safe mod. It is scanning and has been for over 1.5 hours. Is this normal?

The scan will generally complete quickly. However, in some cases if the the system data is large, it will take more time.
