Hi DAVID NICHOLLS,
Thanks for the offline installer link, it works like a charm until AVG does an update a couple of minutes after instaling. So i just uninstalled and re-installed and diss-abled my network connection until i turned off updates until AVG get their act together. They seem to be becoming like Microsoft and trying to Push Us into upgrading our OS and PCs as like a few of you guys in here im still running XP-SP3 32 Bit on and AMD 2000+(1.6GHZ with 2 GB of ram, have had it for about 10years and works fine), so if it aint broke, dont fix it… Avinash is probably running the latest and not so greatest… ![]()
Hello N R,
Thanks for your understanding. You can upgrade your Windows XP OS to Windows 7 and above versions to get the latest windows updates and third party programs installed.
I have the same problem with a bare bones installation of XP SP3 on an old laptop with limited ram (350 mb max).
I also have an old PC which does not support SSE instructions but has 2Gb ram which runs AVG 2015 OK.
This may point to this being an installed ram problem rather than SSE as mentioned in the Anthony S post.
As with others AVG 9 runs fine.
and with that... it looks like I'm out in the cold.... you see I have a couple old PC's 32bit not sse2 given the thread above... AND I own the avg Ultimate, wanted to upgrade the old PC's and well the error is now keeping me from putting any avg on these old PC's. So, now i have downloaded the system analyser and remover... will gladly do them again... but guess i need to find a stand alone 2015 free out there to download and get rolling - IF possible anymore??? or am I just brainfried at the moment?
@Kishore YOU Obviously totally missed the whole thread dialgoue above, huh?
I too am experiencing the Library/DLL 0xC007001D failure. Windows XP Pro 32 Bit SP3 (fresh install).
I have followed the above instructions to the same results.
Hi David,
Sorry to know that. It seems like you are installing 2016 version. Please try to install AVG using this link and check if it is working fine. http://files-download.avg.com/inst/av/avg_free_stb_all_6140p1_686.exe
Please feel free to contact us for any further assistance. Thank You.
Hi Donald,
You can stick to 2015 version, It might be good idea to disable program updates (virus updates should remain enabled from security reasons) to prevent possible upgrade to 2016 version.
Thanks
The same issue. I've Windows XP SP3 32bit. Tried to run AVG Remover, but it didn't help.
Hi Kiryl,
Did you tried installation using
http://files-download.avg.com/inst/av/avg_free_x86_all_2015_ltst_222.exe after running remover tool?
Thanks
Hi David,
Unfortunately 2016 version is not and most likely will not be supported on your HW because of dendency on Chromium.
Thanks
I am with Karl now It installed okay but now it asks for pop ups and when it installs an update it says installed okay but then the error message comes up again as well.
Roberta T Johansen.
AVG, I hope you are listening. This problem is caused by running a version of AVG that relies on hardware that supports certain SSE extensions. Older Pentium IIIs do not. I had this same problem 2 years ago with TURBO TAX. They found that they were using a component in .NET that relied on the SSE extensions. They eventually did their recompile with the correct switch settings and fixed the problem and sent me a working version. Also TURBO tax for the following year did not exibit this problem. I really believe this is a simple fix on your part once you understand the problem. Time to step up and fix this. There are a lot of users out here that have depended on you for years. If they are like me, they are considering upgrading to the non-free version. Your product can very easily be backward compatible. Instead you are saying "too bad, so sad, you need to upgrade". for alot of us, that would be a major undertaking. Please place a little more priority on the needs of your users. We deserve better…
Hi AVG,
I have the same problem on an old but necessary Athlon XP 2400 running Win XP SP3, it has installed AVG Free 2015 but the updates produce the error 0xC007001D, interestingly it then tells me the update was successfull. Now I have another pc with a more recent dual core processor also running Win XP SP3 and AVG Free 2015 updates without a problem on that.
I strongly suspect an SSE instruction set problem here, the old Athlon only has SSE1.
It may not be anything AVG have done with the update installer, but the software or pc used to write it may have been updated and this SSE problem has got in.
You won't be the first software house not to notice this, but it will restrict your customer base as they leave you if it's not fully investigated and fixed.
Good luck
Fred
Ditto to all that Jack said above. XP sp3 and SSE1 here, my AVG free 2015 suggested an upgrade and the install bombed out with the 0xC007001D error.
I lost video on Skype a few years ago because it wanted SSE2. MS didnt admit that for years, just all web cams missing from list: ironically it was their own make of Web cam too! Chrome stopped updating over a year ago for the SSE issue too - but thankfully I use Firefox!
So after all this it is CPU architecture that did for AVG and not hard disk space, memory or Os.
Is it just the install that wants this bit of Chrome or does the AVG runtime need it?
When do we get a definitive answer to this? And when will install and system requirements be enhanced to mention this?

Greetings Alan and Akash,
Thank you for your very prompt responses.
Thank you too for pointing me to those links which explained the bad news.
The Compaq computer which has an old AVG working does not have SSE2 and is a slower and older machine than the laptop. Is there any way to copy the programme and registry data from that machine to the laptop?
Perhaps you would be good enough to look down to the bottom of this and other forum pages or follow this link:
https://support.avg.com/resource/1494476872000/support_resources/img/devices-text/device-text-en_us.png which says quite clearly that you can cover all devices.
Again I'll look forward to your comments and further suggestions in the hope that you will be able to offer protection for older computers.
Thanks and Best Wishes

Hi all,
@Karl & Roberta: This is triggered by the campaign not the update itself. We are now upgrading older AVG versions to 2016.
@DAVID NICHOLLS: I'd like to ask you for the AVG SysInfo output http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_SysInfo.exe? This tool collects AVG ans System log files which are required for further analysis.
Thanks
Hello Everyone :)…Okay, I found a site where many versions of AVG downloads are located: http://filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus_32/63492/ (Look on the far right side of the page.) After getting the same error message as you all when trying to install the newest version, I gave up and tried finding an older version for my Win XP svc pk 3 machine. I chose the latest 2015 version, 2015.0.6140, and it installed just fine. Hope this helps!
