I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.
We don't want you to have this kind of experience with AVG.
The upgrade was to the latest 2017 version and your AVG Antivirus program will be upgraded as AVG Internet Security which will have the Enhanced Firewall component.
Due to security reasons, some of the application might be blocked by AVG Firewall component, however it can be easily resolved by changing the settings.
We don't want to lose a valuable customer for these kind of issues, hence we recommend you to give us a chance in installing AVG Antivirus program again.
If you give us a confirmation, we will proceed further in providing the steps.
Day before yesterday AVG asked to upgrade from AVG Antivirus to AVG Internet protection. I declined as I was busy and did not want to muck around with any issues with new software. AVG upgraded anyway. The Brother scanning software stopped working, AVG reported ControlCenter (Brother scanning software) was trying to change file Scan_000028.pdf. Of course it was, it was trying to create the file from the scan. I also have a Windows Mobile device which is a controller for Trimble Survey instruments. It normally connects by USB cable showing up as a drive, which lets me access the files on it. The connection now only lasted about 10 seconds and then terminated. I could not find where to switch off AVG, so I uninstalled it. Everything else worked fine after that. Then contacted AVG support, they got me to install software to allow a remote connection, which they then used to access the compute. The AVG guy tried to run AVG-remover.exe, which started up and then just hung. He restarted my computer in safe mode, after which the chat window came up, but the computer would not connect. It took me another half hour to figure out how to start my computer in normal, not safe mode. I've uninstalled AVG from this computer now, also from another home computer, and three mobile devices. Life is good again now.

Also access was restricted to a number of websites. My message to AVG is ask ask ask, don't just take over my computer and do what you want. I understand why some of this functionality is created, but if my computer is disabled by software that is deigned to help avoid a computer being disabled, and I waste hours of time I can't charge out, then AVG has defeated it's purpose. AVG caused me a lot of embarrasment in my work environment over the last few days, I came acrooss as an idiot who doesn't know what he is doing.
