I have uninstalled then reinstalled the AVG Secure VPN, but did not have to activate it as it opened to the "turn me on" window once it was reinstalled.
So far, so good. I will know later today if all is well!

Over the past two or three weeks, when I return to my desktop computer after an hour or so and hit a key to wake things up, I get a message stating "internet blocked" with the option to "unblock internet" which I click on. Then a message stating that if I do that, the VPN will close and all will be exposed to the world…so to speak! As soon as the window shows for the VPN, I simply click on it to turn it back on. Now, that takes about twice as long as it has in the past, but it does come back on.
Is there someone who could help me with this? Or even who has an explanation as to why it is happening?

Hello.
The same errors are still occurring, despite uninstalling then reinstalling the AVG Secure VPN app.
Also, today when I got back to my computer after a few hours, I first checked that the VPN was running and it appeared to be - the timing showed just over 5 hours of running. But, when I wen to go on-line, I could not open the web page and then the Internet Blocked window came up.
So it would seem that I still need help!

I will have to wait for the next time as the screenshots that I took using the usual "Win-key + PrintSc" provides screen prints that I cannot attach. I will try the suggestion from your reply and hope it works!

From your description, it seems that there are few network connectivity issues, after waking the computer from hibernation.
Alongwith the screenshot, please let us know the operating system of the device.
