Internet Security is blocking Firefox ESR on Windows XP

My experience with AVG Internet Security since the beginning of 2018 is that it broke both Outlook and iTunes. With Outlook, when I try to send/receive messages I get the error "We couldn't connect to the incoming IMAP server using the specified encryption method." So I tinkered with encryption options and tried POP3 instead, all to no avail. With iTunes when I tried to connect to the iTunes store I just got a blank white page. At first I did not suspect AVG at all, so I called my ISP, Comcast, and an hour they had made no progress, so I hung up. Next I called Microsoft and talked to them for an hour, and they couldn't fix it, either. Finally a light bulb went on and I wondered "hmm, maybe my AVG firewall is blocking port 993?" So I disabled AVG temporarily, and bingo, everything started working. So, first I uninstalled AVG altogether and re-installed. Didn't help. Then I just gave up on AVG altogether, since I've had so many problems with their technical support, sales support, too many pop-ups, too many bugs, etc. I unstalled it and installed the commercial version of AVAST instead, not realizing that AVAST is really almost the same product as AVG (Avast bought out AVG a few years ago.) However, AVAST did not exhibit the firewall problem (yet.) Yes, I am sure there must have been an easy way to configure the AVG filrewall to allow an IMAP connection, but I was so fed up with the product that I didn't want to waste any more time messing with it.,

@ Alan Binch: yes, I was using SP3.

Hello Alok.  Thank you for your confirmation, and I look forward to an update that's not blocking ESR.  However, I'm not sure how I use the link you've provided to report a program that's causing problems: isn't that link for reporting web pages and the like?

Internet Security is blocking Firefox ESR, latest version.  It's not enough to simply switch off AVG for 10 minutes: that makes no difference.  I actually have to uninstall it to allow Firefox to launch.  Obviously I don't want to be browsing the internet without antivirus, so please can someone tell me how to make it work as it used to until a few weeks ago?

Hello Alison,
I apologize for delay in handling this case. We have confirmed with our senior team, that the Firefox ESR is a false positive. However, we have tested it today and haven't found any issue with it and AVG. If the issue still persists, then you can submit a false positive form here (https://www.avg.com/submit-sample), it will reach to our concern team and they will definitely look into this.
Best regards,
Alok.
