Well, I got so fed up with this that I decided to remove and reinstall AVG. Got as far as trying to remove it, and a Repair option came up, so I chose that one. Problem hasn't recurred since
Thank you to everyone who tried to help.
Just updated Internet Security as of today's date, and AVG PERSISTS in wanting to be rebooted. I reboot, and then 5 minutes later the "reboot needed" message is back again - and again - and again.
Windows 8.1 Home edition.
Any suggestions welcome.
Hello, Alison.
Thank you for providing the screenshots, they are visible now. I see that it is AVG Anti Virus free you are using on your PC but you have an active license for AVG Internet Security (2 computers). Please follow the instructions below to activate AVG Internet Security and reboot your PC.
Open AVG Anti Virus free, click on Menu and select 'About'.
On About page, click on 'Subscription' in the left pane.
Then click on 'Enter license number' to enter your new license number.
The program will update to paid version automatically.
Restart your computer.
Hello, Avinash. Thanks for confirming that my licence is still only for 2 computers: it wasn't clear. This computer is only my "occasional" one, which is why I run Free on it and leave Internet Security for my main two computers (although actually I don't have AVG installed on my office PC at the moment due to the "conflict with Malwarebytes" saga). However, I was supposed to be running a trial version of Internet Security on the "occasional" laptop, and indeed it is currently showing a reminder that my trial version allegedly expires today, despite the fact that every time I've run it recently it's run as Free.
Anyway, the upshot is that I don't actually want/need to be wasting one of my licences on this computer.
You mean this one? Haven't been in the office for days to be able to access the computer.

It's still doing the "reboot every 10 minutes" thing …
Are these images showing up, because I can't see them on my computer?
