When I first searched for a possible answer, yes I did try that several times. That is also how I found the file rootsupd.exe.
.
Currently AVG disabled "Identity Protection" and I clicked "Fix Now" and going through the TuneUp install. To which I am now getting yet another error. ''The cabinet file 'TUU.cab required is corrupt. and cannot be used.'' I do not have a network error and I opened my FireWall for this to commence. I hit "RETRY" (7 times then cancelled) it will not install. Previously I found this TuneUp intrusive and uninstalled it.
I do not like TOOLBARS for they are resource eaters and slow my browser down. Besides, there has never been a ToolBar that does me any good.
.
This is very interesting. After closing the TuneUp install AVG reccommended a Website. "Fine information for you issue here." In that Webpage is an advert, "Need help with this installation? $24.99" Is this some sort of "Make me spend my money" ploy? I declined and clicked on"Please visit AVG Knowledgebase". Webpage reads, "How to install AVG" (see below). Yah, right. After almost 2 decades of installing.software, doing inhouse (currently AVG) searches for answers, I'm pretty well versed in installations and what to watch out for. Hence my first writeup and the step-by-step reinstall of Windows, etc…
OK, my point is I'm back to square one using AVG's suggestion of "Support Center".
What is on the menu now Alan?
OK, how do I install the AVG free 2015 version?
I'd like to finish this PC before Friday night.
There's an OnLine installer, 32 bit and 64 bit programs. I chose the 32 bit which is the Free 30 day trial version. Did I choose the wrong one?.
Well this is going to sound wierd, and this happened a few years ago.
That AVG free 2015 I last downloaded and installed as a "30 Day Trial" but after several install and update requested reboots, it went from (titled) "AVG AntiVirus 30 Day Trial" to "AVG AntiVirus FREE".
Today I've perodically clicked the "Protection is up to date" button and had a couple "Invalid binary update file" errors. I hard booted and so far the last 4 hours it's running proper.
Two other points.
One thing I changed in the PC was it's memory sticks positions. I moved the 1 GB stick from the first slot to between two 512 MB sticks. The BIOS still read the memory the same, "Duel Channel DDR".
I did a whole HDD copy to its twin HDD and on the reboot to log into that #2 drive, the PC froze at the loading of AVG.GUI. I found this out on "Safe Mode" boot up. Once I uninstalled AVG then did the drive copy again the #2 HDD booted proper. Am I to assume that's due to the #2 drive not having a correct serial number?
.
While writing this, I (hard/soft) rebooted the othe PC 7 times, still working proper, so I guess this is fixed.
Thanks for the help.
FM
Not sure why I'm getting (the titles) error.
HISTORY: (All this took 3 days)
AVG 2015 free installed with no problems on IDE drive.
Replaced IDE HDD with "0" wiped SATA HDD.
LAN plug (Internet) unplugged for security reasons.
Desktop PC, Gigabyte 7n400 Pro 2, PC3200 CPU, 2 GB memory.
Fresh install of Win-XP with SP3 with proper soft and hard reboots.
ALL PC drivers installed from Mfg. CD, with proper reboots.
Soft and Hard boot twice before installing accessory software.
First accessory software to install, AVG free 2015.
Installed it from a saved, known good file that was installed and works on my laptop.
Hard booted.
LAN turned on and all Hardware and software drivers updated with proper reboots.
—This includes ALL Windows updates that pertains to XP.
AVG wants updates but I wait until Windows is completely finished with it's updates.
Now I update the AVG 2015 free software and I get the titled error.
Downloaded and ran file rootsupd.exe. Seems to be no issues.
Rechecked Windows updates, none.
Repeatedly rebooted (8 times) and tried updating AVG, same error.
.
Now what needs to be done?
F M, Have you actually tried my previous posting content fully?.

F M. Your original posting states that you already have AVG 2015 Free installed?. I was attempting to remove this & re-install if you read again!!
AVG Guru
F M, Have you tried this?.. Tty removing AVG by downloading & using the 32 or 64bit Remover (http://www.avg.com/ww-en/utilities) [Scroll Down], whichever suits your system, & re-install using the appropriate 32 or 64bit install file (http://free.avg.com/ww-en/download-free-all-product).
AVG Guru
Correct but the AVG free 2015 will not update. The AVG 2015 Free Trial does work.
I posted that before you posted yours.
Yes, AVG FREE 30 Trial loaded up after 7 requested Reboots.
What's next on the menu, Desert?
