Yes, I know… however, I do have the latest update 18.6.3066 (build 18.6.3983.0) and I've tried both Remove and Clear before uninstall/new install, but I'm just tired of spending time with this matter - it's much easier to find another program, sorry… =P
(I will probably go back to AVG when I have updated my OS/get a new computer, which comes first ; )
Ty for your (and this ; ) time!
Kind Regards
Roger
I am getting this fault on my computer as well.
Not only that but the same thing is happening on all my friends & family who I have recommended to use AVG Free to.
Now, none of are protected.
I have tried uninstalling on lots of these people’s PC but it does nothing.
This really needs sorting
At last! That's more like it!!! =D
I did uninstall Avast and downloaded Kaspersky. After a scan and a mandatory update the startscreen says: (translated)
- Licence is valid
- No active threats are detected
- Database and program is updated
- All safety components are running
Now I really KNOW that I'm protected!! =) phew
(I did get a install/uninstall tutorial fram the Avast Forum but luckily I didn't have to use the Avast uninstall program - it worked with an simple uninstallition! ; )
Well, thanks for keeping me protected for several years! =) …at this point, I guess I will stick to Kaspersky for a long time: It gives me the basic protection we all need, but also 200MB free and secure VPN per day! I'm stoked! ^.^
Thx again! =) Bye bye! (at least for now ; )
Unfortunately it didn't help.. so I downloaded Avast Antivrus Free and met a similar problem, that - after a scan - it says that I'm "Protected" according to the startscreen, but in the message over problems it says that the program is in "Passive Mode" cause of another Antivirus program (don't have any files left now, and I did run AVG Remover and Clear once more and restarted the computer just to be sure) but at the Avast Forum one guy said that AVG and Avast have merged, now that makes sence since we can see (Avast) after your name here - but I thought (since I haven't heard of this) that it was more of a cooperative teamwork (if that's the right word? = working together, but still being two seperate companies) so it was two different programs in the foundation, but if it's the same code I truly understand why the problem remains with Avast!
Have to try another then! Kaspersky looks good - I cross my fingers that it wont be any corrupting files left from the uninstallation of Avast, so it becomes a new problem with the new Antivirus program!
…well, after more then 2 months of trying this and that it's a bit frustrating, yes… ^.^ …however, to send the files once more (that's where it all started since this is my thread from the beginning ; ) can't solve anything that hasn't been solved already, right? =P …I mean, it's not a new problem - it's the same problem, so if that didn't work before it shouldn't work now either, right? =/
…like I said, I'm just tired of this and I've decided to switch program - it's just as easy as that to get rid of the problem for the moment… =) and hopefully it will all work once I have upgraded OS in a near future ^.^

Cin, we did a major update in the AVG program recently, this issue is caused by the left over traces of the older version. That is why we suggest customers to use the AVG clear and remover tool to remove the old traces of the AVG program.
Btw: I have tried AVG Remover three times now and every time it hangs up at the second Restart - so now when I installed Avast instead, that program says after a scan: (easy translated)
"Several antivirus programs can cause problems. The Real Time protection is therefor in Passive Mode. Please uninstall other antivrus programs manually"
BUT, at the startscreen of Avast it says "You are protected" but I'm not really sure I am?
Do I really have to wipe my harddrive to get rid of AVG so that I can start using another antivirus program?? O.O =P
Yes, I will! =) …but first I will get Avast to begin with! ^.^

…nah… I give up… after two tries of installing and uninstalling the problem remains… (yes, I tried Remove and Clear first) …I'm sorry… I've been a happy customer for several years but I do need a Antivirus program that works and this does not… ty for your time and your efforts to help me, but now I will search for a new program that will help me keep my computer safe! =)
It's a red x-mark over the AVG icon (been there for days) and when I hover over it it says "AVG Antivirus: WARNING, your system is UNSECURED" and when I open the program it says "You are not protected Computer protection is turned off!" but the button "Fix now" doesn't work and when I look in Windows Security Center it says that AVG Antivirus is "On" (also Windows Firewall) and that the AVG-program states "it's activated and up to date" - so which is right??
Hello… ijust noticed the same issue on my screen. did some looking around and it turns out that our AVG free subscription has EXPIRED. my AVG still showing that my pc IS PROTECTED. well gotta fix this. good luck
Hello Jim,
This issue shouldn't happen in latest version of 18.6. Let us know the version of AVG you have installed. Open AVG Antivirus -> About -> you can check its version.
