I've been charged for AVG protection but it has not been used at all!

I've had an AVG subscription for a number of years with a bill every 2 years.  Last September I was billed after 1 year and informed that I would be billed every year from then on.  I could not get AVG to operate on my computers (it had not worked for some time) so belatedly, I have today cancelled my subscription.
AVG records show that I have not used the software for the last year (and probably long before that).  I am now asking AVG for a refund of the last years subscription on the grounds of being unable to get the software to run and the fact that I have not used it.
