i've rolled my System back to an earlier restore polnt and appear to have resolved my issue; it appears to have been a (sneaky) Chrome update/installation (I don't use Chrome). Thanks for your advice Midhun.

My email (gmail) is not is not passing on or receiving emails with a Jpg attachment to my friend
(My friend can send and receive emails with jpg attachments)
(I can send and forward emails with jpg attachments to myself)
