Well, I downloaded Zemana Anti Maiware and it fixed the problem.
AVG did catch the intrusions when they were attempted, but did not offer a direct fix or even a quarentine. The cut and paste was problematic since I had to wait until the next time the incident occurred. In the meantiime a different and similar attempt was made to connect to a different site. Yes, AVG did catch that one also.
In searching for the first problem, I picked up on an AVG conversation with another user who was getting the same message. The AVG response was they were sending him instructions on how to remove the threat.
When I received your response for cut and paste, I simply searched for other solutions.
Note: This problem is due to an infected regsvr32.exe Microsoft file? and yes you need a newer version of a valid Microsoft file to replace the old one?
Peerhaps AVG needs something in a webpage addressing these fairly common problems that AVG catches, and address steps to remove them. Perhaps such is already in place ?
