I found some information online about steps for removing but it also said that you should use your virus protection software if you have it. I have had AVG for several years now and have just done a scan just to be sure and nothing showed up.
Anyone know what steps I should take to safely remove this?

Thank you for the screenshot. Are you able to login to your PC? If yes, we suggest you to uninstall unwanted programs from control panel and remove unknown extensions from browsers. Also, try to reset all browsers installed on the PC. Then, restart and check it.
