Just installed AVG, not working

I just installed AVG.  It's telling me that AVG is in passive mode because I have another antivirus installed, but I already uninstalled that other antivirus.  I can't find a way to enable AVG.  Can someone please help?

Vicki, Did you download & run a total removal tool for the previous antivirus prog you had installed on your system?.
