Keep getting notified that AVG Free needs updated

Every few days I get a popup saying my AVG Free needs updated.  I click on Update, and then the computer goes through a completely new install of AVG Free that takes 10-15 minutes.  Daily updates are done automatically. From reading other posts, this is not normal.
