Keep getting "restart needed" message

About a week ago, AVG internet security updated  … and now every day multiple times a day I get a message that a restart is required for the updates to take effect.  I've restarted my laptop about 50 times already … the message doesn't go away.    Today I noticed that  firewall is disabled as well … and that too is asking for a restart.  (which I did … only to get the message again, 10 mins later).   What do I need to do to make this stop?
