Latest Update for AVG AntiVirus FREE Stops Print Spooler Service

Richard, sorry for the delay.

As we do not have the sysinfo logs, we will try other basic troubleshooting and check if that fix this issue.

* Reset all setting in AVG AntiVirus Free (Menu - Setting - Troubleshooting - Reset Factory Defaults)

* Set spooler service to Automatic

Press “Window key” + “R” to open the Run dialog
Type “services.msc“, then select “OK“.
Double-click the “Printer Spooler” service, and then change the startup type to “Automatic“.

If the issue persists, please disable each AVG component and without restarting your computer check if the "Print Spooler Service" works fine.

To check this, you can restart the "Print Spooler Service" and check if it gets disabled immediately.

my original post shows the Windows Application logs for the errors I was receiving so I'm not sure what screenshots would be needed. I copied all details from the Windows Application errors into that post. Also, I attempted to download the AVG_Sysinfo.exe file on a seperate pc that is nothing but a test bench for various software that contains no functional network information (other than secured vpn internet connection) and no personal data and the file was flagged as a virus by Google and Windows Defender so i will not be running any programs emailed to me. I have already provided the logs as well as what Windows OS and version I am running so I do not see what else would be required to troubleshoot and correct this issue. With the issues I've been having I will not be downloading nor installing anything emailed to me, even if it is from a verified address. There should be sufficient information to be able to test and possibly duplicate the problem on a test pc. I will be attempting a similar test with another Windows 10 pc to see if the most recent update causes the same problem. If it does then there should be no reason an AVG tech couldn't duplicate the problem to be able to troubleshoot and work on the issue. I simply will not put my info, nor my company's info at risk when testing can be done via other means.

here's what I tried this morning:
-Installed AVG Antivirus Free
-Rebooted
-Problem started
-Disabled Email Shield
-Rebooted
-Problem remained
-Disabled Behavior Shield
-Rebooted
-Problem remained
-Disabled Web Shield
-Rebooted
-Problem Remained
-Disabled Do Not Disturb Mode
-Rebooted
-Problem remained
-Disabled SafePrice Browser Extension
-Rebooted
-Problem remained
-Disabled File Shield
-Rebooted
-Problem remained
-Uninstalled AVG Antivirus Free
-Problem resolved

I have been using the Free version of AVG Antivirus for years and have never had any problems until the most recent update. Unfortunately it does not appear to be any single component but the program itself. I'm hoping there is a fix for this soon. To me AVG is the best free antivirus software out there and I have always recommended it over all other antivirus software. I personnaly can't stand McAfee and Symantec. I've tried many different solutions and have had the access to try paid versions of some via work and I still have found none better than AVG Free. Please let me know if this issue can be addressed and patched.

Hi Richard,
We appreciate your efforts.
We will have a look into it.
I have sent you an email requesting logs for analysis. Please follow that email and send us the requested files so that our senior team will check and get back to you via email.

Hi Richard.
We'll certainly look into this. Is AVG AntiVirus free installed on your PC now? If it is, please disable each component individually and verify the issue to further narrow down the root cause. Open AVG, click Menu > Settings > Components. Use On/Off slider against each component to disable it.

After running the latest update for AVG AntiVirus FREE version, my Print Spooler Service would fail. any attempt at restarting the service would fail within 1 minute. Prior to the latest update there were no problems. I removed AVG and everything worked as normal. I reinstalled from a fresh download and the problem came back almost immediately. Below is a bit more info on what I'm running and the version of AVG along with Event Viewer Application logs. Again, the only change was updating AVG AntiVirus Free version, uninstalling, then reinstalling from a new download (version annotated below):
Windows 10 Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.228)
AVG Antivirus Free Version installed from Version 19.1.4142.424 installer/setup exe.

Anyone else experience the same problem? Any info would help. Thanks.

No worries about the delay. is there a clean version of the avg sysinfo app?

as i mentioned in previous posts, i've completely uninstalled and reinstalled AVG AntiVirus Free so it is at factory defaults. my print spooler has always been set to Automatic and i've detailed my steps in disabling each AVG component.

the last time i installed AVG Antivirus Free it seemed to run fine until after rebooting. but this would mean i would need to uninstall prior to shutting down and reinstall after booting up everyday…

i have also used other laptops and desktops (when available) as test benches for this problem to see if it can be duplicated on more than just the 2 laptops that are currently in use and i am able to duplicate this issue multiple times.

Same issue here for my client.
Once we've removed AVG, we are able to print again.
We will try to reinstall AVG when this issue resolved.

Well, factory reset or not after uninstalling product is not so sure as it could be seen.
Different apps leave own customized settings even if uninstalled, which is not so bad - after installed again You won't need time to set everything up.

Richard, thank you for your expertise in this issue.

The Sysinfo file we have emailed you is a clean file. I will resend the email, please follow the steps from the email and send us the log files.

Thie will be analysed by our senior team and they will soon contact you via email with a solution.
