Michael,
I am sorry for the delay in response. The issue with Firefox web browser and AVG web shield has been resolved in the latest update. Please update AVG app on your Mac to version 18.2, restart your computer and let us know if the issue persist.
So today I had another go at getting this to work, and same problem. Neither will email work (at all), nor will any pages load in Safari.
Have uninstalled AVG again, and will try back in a month to see if this basic failure has been resolved. Again, I appreciate that it is Free, but that doesn't mean it should not work.
Hi again,
After two days of mucking about with the settings on this, and also being unable to download email at all on either Apple Mail or Outlook, i've deleted/uninstalled the AVG product entirely, and mysteriously now the websites load and email downloads on both of those clients.
Please lovely AVG people, if you're going to release a product update that completely breaks functionality without any obvious cause or rationale, let us know. I'll be avoiding this product until it seems obvious from updates here that it works as the previous version did - ie, well and quietly without cauusing problems. PS. the lack of options in a menu on the Mac App is just rubbish, it makes dianogistics even more difficult.
Hello Michael,
I understand that you are unable to access web pages after a recent update from AVG and unable to receive emails.
Please add the certificates of AVG to Firefox manually and check if that fix the issue.
Firstly, it is necessary to obtain a copy of the certificate.
This can be found with Keychain Access with Keychain "login" and category "Certificates". Search for "avg". You should find "AVG trusted CA". Select it and export it from the menu bar under "File" then "Export Items…". Save it somewhere accessible.
Next, the certificate needs to be added to Firefox's certificate manager.
Open Firefox's Preferences > Privacy & Security tab. Scroll down to Security > Certificates. Open "View Certificates…". Click on "Authorities" then "Import…". Import "AVG trusted CA" and trust it to "identify websites". You can select "identify mail users" if you want.
This will fix all the issues. If you face any difficulties, please let us know and we will assist you further.
So I've had AVG Free Version on my MacBooks for years, awesome, quietly does the job without too many distractions.
Suddenly this week the software appears to have updated to an entirely new interface. It appears this update has corrupted my KeyChain folder, all my email accounts no longer work, and worst and most bizarre of all, if I have the 'web-shield' on, no pages load, not even google.
So please, can someone explain why, and whether there are settings that fix these problems, or it is is as my investigations so far reveal, it is still a basic on or off program, which at this point I might as well uninstall?
Safari does not have the menu options you suggest, nor does it seem making the suggested edits in KeyChain works.
As I said, why send out to customers a product that basically doesn't do what it said on the box when the previous version was perfectly ok???

I understand your concern. Please try the same for safari browser. Import certificates from AVG and check if that fix the issue.
Thank you for the quick reply. I do not however use Firefox, rather I’m a simple person using safari. I find it remarkable that a avg would produce an auto update that doesn’t work unless the user is tech savvy enough to lurk around in keychain and certificates. I imagine many will be like me and just uninstall.
Michael,
I am very sorry for such destabilizing encounters you have been faced with.
To analyze the issue further, I need to submit your concern to our senior technicians along with other diagnostic logs. I have sent you an email with steps on how to collect and upload the data required for analyzing your issue. Please check your inbox and spam/junk folder as well.
Also as an aside, since uninstalling AVG my email is working normally again. So not only does the shield now work on a browser, but AVG completely blocks all email (in and out) on Mac OS Mail and in Outlook.
The complete lack of menu options to create exceptions, or to even see what is being blocked makes it very difficult to diagnoise a problem from a user end. Ultimately uninstalling AVG entirely seems to be the only fix which is a shame because I like/d it.
Thank you for your email. Not wanting to labour this point, but i DO NOT use Firefox or Chrome or any other aforementioned browsers as I've already said.
I use Safari, the standard Mac OS Browser, one you'd think a company would ensure works when designing an application for that OS platform.
Please let me know when AVG Mac Edition works on standard mac OS application, ie, Safari, and then I might revisit this matter.
Michael, I understand your concern and forwarded the concern to senior team for getting suggestion.
Keep checking this post to know about the status. Your patience is much appreciated.
