This complaint is similar to the one in my last post, dealing with the "Last computer scan:" area of the home page of my AVG Antivirus Free program.
Program file update v 18.1.3044 on Feb 12, 2018, corrected the problem where the Last computer scan: never reflected the time of a completed scan. Now I see a new problem. It updates only after I complete a "Scan Computer" scan on the home page. Until yesterday, it updated the times of Deep Scans, File or Folder, USB / DVD and Scheduled scans. I do Deep Scans often and I would like to see the time reflected in the Last computer scan: area.
Why are you having so much trouble maintaining a reliably running program?
The following is what I wrote as a detailed reply to an AVG customer service survey email I received…
You keep changing features on your AVG Antivirus FREE program, that serve no practical purpose. Why does the "Last computer scan" area update the time of the last scan, ONLY for the basic "Computer Scan", and NOT update the time with the Deep Scan, USB / DVD, File or Folder or Scheduled scans? Updates occurred after EVERY SCAN, until recently.
My advice is to leave alone features that benefit your customers, unless they need changing to improve the program. Many of us would like to see the time of the last computer scan, to see if we should run another scan.
J Jeff,
I would like to inform you that the "Last computer scan" status will get updated only if you run a scan by clicking on "Scan computer" on main interface and not for any other scans like Schedules scan, deep scan and file or folder scan.
Jeffrey,
Thanks for being open and honest about your experience so we can learn from it. I have forwarded your suggestions to the concern team. However, you can directly inform our developers about the product feedbacks by filling this form- AVG 2025 | FREE Antivirus, VPN & TuneUp for All Your Devices
Jeff, if i were you, until the next Version Update, i would take everything AVG tell you re this problem with a 'pinch of salt'.
Indeed Linda. WE were assured by the AVG Gurus, that this glitch would be fixed in the next program file version, which was released on Feb 12th and partially solved the time update matter. Maybe they think that they are not required to give us a stable program…just because it was not purchased? Obviously, this is NOT good for customer confidence. The funny thing is that the time update feature worked as expected from Feb 12th to the 15th, and then it stopped updating all scans except the generic Scan Computer one.
Thank you for the elaboratioin. But…the area was always updated regardless of the scan I used. Having it updated ONLY after doing Scan Computer on the home page, is new. It started not updating all scans, two days ago.
Why would you develop the program this way, when many of us do not want to upgrade to any of your other tools, which means we stop the portion of the scan dealing with "performance?"
In additiion, the most efficient scan is the Deep Scan, which is why it was given this name. I use this one more than any other scan, even though it takes almost an hour to complete.
Good advice, since this glitch is more of an inconvenience than a burden. I would never use any other AV program, because it has never allowed a threat to deliver it's destructive or annoying payload, whether a virus, malware, spyware or ransomeware.
The only AV program I used that put me in a jam with ransomeware, was The PC Tools Spyware Doctor..I paid for a year subscription and it gave me grief. In the fiels of AV programs, FREE does not mean "ineffective", and paying does NOT guarantee "effectiveness."
Let us keep an eye on things for now, and deal with the minor inconvenience!
