Great thanks - was planning not to uninstall the previous antivirus until I'd got AVG working, but helpful to know this is an issue.

For your information if you get as 'waiting for watchdog service start failed' then it means that there is another third party antivirus program installed on your PC or the previous versions of the third party antivirus is not completely uninstalled. Please uninstall the previous antivirus programs to install the AVG program. Thank you.
Trying to load AVG on a new acer laptop - got the following message:
