I am having the same issue on oneo f my Windows PC's but not the other. I've "Repaired" the PC that isn't working but that does NOT appear to fix this issue.

Just updated the AVG internet security to the software version 18.4.3056
Now have lost to ability to do a deep scan… the gear icon just to the right of the "SCAN COMPUTER" button?? Is this correct?
Has AVG taken away the ability to do a deep scan?
Any insights would be appreciated

to add to the above pic… If I click the button that looks like a menu dropdown with a magnifing glass (to the right of the SCAN COMPUTER) AVG simply goes to doing the same as the scan computer button… that is the 3 step scan - scanning my browser - scanning for viruses and other malware - and look for performance issues?

My apologies for the inconvenience caused. May I know if you have installed AVG Internet Security or AVG Free Antivirus on your computer? I request you to reboot your computer once and check if you can open AVG protection with no issues.

The "gear" icon has been replaced with what you see in the screen shot.
If I press this all I get is the same behaviour as pushing the scan computer button.
I do get a "done" if i have scanned recently BUT it does NOT go back to the gear icon,… it persists as is seen.
what is the latest build number?

Having the same problem, I performed the repair twice. Attached is the black screen requested. This is what opens when clicking the button next to SCAN COMPUTER
It also does not go back. The only way to "go back" is to close the program and reopen. Again, after reparing it supposedly.
