Sheila, AVG Free isn't for business type use if you are involved in any financial gain @ all. You should actually be using AVG (paid for) version. Re AVG Community Support expert assistance from Brno, Czech Rep… They will attend to your posting @ their earliest convenience but please bear in mind that it's now the weekend i.e. Workdays [Mon-Fri] 9:00am - 5:00pm CET.

It sounds like your user profile is corrupted try refer to this article (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix-corrupted-user-profile#1TC=windows-7) to fix it.

I did a update of AVG free version on my computer two days ago.  I did not restart it right away but when I went to use it last night it was logged off and when I booted it back up my screen saver is gone, all my documents are gone and items on my desktop are gone. It looks like my computer was whiped clean.  What can I do to recover my files?  I have my whole business on this computer and loosing these will mean days and weeks of recreation.

Sheila, In the meantme whilst waiting you can try using some file recovery software, for example Recuva (http://www.piriform.com/recuva) to get deleted data back.
