Initially, we appreciate your efforts in trying the possible troubleshooting steps.
We'd suggest you to disable AVG protection temporarily to check if AVG is causing the issue.
have gone through all the steps i can find to get my intranet file sharing back up and running but it just isn't happening… reshared folders… turned file and printer sharing on and off on both machines… set AVG on both machines to "Allow Internet Connection Sharing mode" but it's not the Internet i want – LOL – it's the machine in the next room that i want to be able to write a backup file to… should be very simple yet it's become impossible for some reason… should i just uninstall AVG on both machines, do my backup then re-install AVG ?
