Well, sometime overnight the movement in the 'show progress' bar stopped and I got a red notification number at the top of the screen.
To me, it looks like something in the scan process is not ending properly and after a number of hours, it just times out giving the notification that no has to be cleared by rerunning part of the scan.
Not a good way of functioning.
For the above 'answer', going to AVG >> Menu >> Settings >> General, there is no PRIVACY POLICY, there is a NOTIFICATIONS and also a PERSONAL PRIVACY. Neither of those seem applicable to this problem unless under NOTIFICATIONS I turn ALL off which means I may not know if anything went wrong.
I presume AVG Protection is AKA AVG Internet Security
This stuff recently started, If I do NOT go to AVG Internet Security daily to clean up 'Notifications' (today I had 6), I have to clean them up to get the 'Notifications' down to 0.
The Image 1 is after I got them down to 1
Image 2 is the current version of AVG Internet Security on my machine
For each Notification, I see something as shown in Image 3
When I click on 'Details' scanning starts on the Browser as shown in Image 4
It completes as shown in Image 5
Then it does the other scan and completes with what is shown in Image 6
And then ends with Image 7
In order to get rid of all the Notifications' I have to do this for every one (I can end them quicker by clicking on 'See Results' that comes up on the screen shown in Image 1).
This is MOST annoying to have to do this every day after every scan. What is even morg is that this started in the past few updates (I have had at least one that required me to do a computer restart since this began)
I would like to attach images but your process doesn't permit it and I don't have a convenient place to put them, so, . . . .
Why is it happening, and more importantly, how do I stop it short of removing AVG (I have already removed a bunch of AVG stuff (VPN, Password) that cause me nothing but problems and now here is another one.
If I kick off a scan from Image 1, by clickin on 'Run Smart Scan', the scaan runs through to the end and I do NOT a notification BUT
- At the bottom of the window there is an active indication saying 'Show Progress'
- At the top, where the scan is finished, there is a note that 'Smart Scan' has finished and a button for 'See Results' (this is what I have to click on each time to reduce the number of notifications)
- 'Show Progress' is still running.
My guess is that, after some indeterminate amount of time it will stop and I'll get a red Notification number but right now, it is getting late so I'm just going to let it sei until the morning to see what happens
I am NOT in favor of having someone from AVG control my machine. Every time I have allowed this in the past, they have messed something up on my machine. The tech rarely, if ever, lets me know what they are doing and why before they make changes. I'm not so much worried about what they see on my machine as when they do something they do not, generally, give me notice BEFORE they go and do something. It is getting to the point where I may just as well remove AVG.
I do NOT appreciate the fact that almost everytime an update is done by AVG I have to restart my machine and I also don't like that just about every update messes up something that was working. This current fiasco is just the latest in a series of inadequate testing before an update is shipped to a customer. You are getting almost as annoying as Microsoft and their 'updates' that shove stuff to me that I do not want.
I will live with the way AVG works and hope that, when you reinstate the dupe file finder, you will fix this at the same time.
Close this, I have wasted way too much time on it.

You can change the settings of the notification with the available options in :
AVG >> Menu >> Settings >> General >> Privacy Policy
