i was trying to set up Gmail IMAP in Mozilla Thunderbird the other day and having a right headache , trying all different setting it was not allowing me to log on and downloading the IMAP folders into Thunderbird.
By change I went into AVG Antivirus Free edition settings and turned off 'mail shield' (well for 10 minutes anyway) and amazingly tried to add Gmail IMAP to Thunderbird and it all worked as it should! - all the folders and messages downloaded.
i wonder why the AVG email shield would interact so much that it stopped all mail being downloaded from Gmail into Thunderbird?. I dont really want to turn email shield off altogether but when it is enabled it seems to be causing problems with Gmail in Thunderbird when its left on
