Philip,
I apologize for the delayed response.
Please try to press shift+command+period to toggle hidden files in Finder to select required folders (this will work for MacOS 10.12 and higher). Alternative option would be usage of terminal commands as described at https://www.lifewire.com/display-hidden-files-in-os-x-153332.
I want to exclude my local Time Machine backups which are stored in the hidden folder "Volumes". Unfortunately, although this folder can be made visible in the Forklift file manager, it is not visible in Mac Finder and so I can't choose it when I try to add the folder as an exception in preferences. The reason I want to exclude this folder is that AVG scanning this folder has already taken over 24 hrs and it looks as if it's going to continue as the scan is presently at 88%.
Many thanks
Philip
