Hello Roger,
Thank you for raising this threat inquiry to us.
We can understand that AVG successfully removed this MalSign.Generic.EE6 infection from your external hard drives.
If a threat is removed by AVG program then it will be in the Virus Vault of AVG and the state of the virus will be in active state which means it can't act until it is moved from AVG Virus Vault.
In your case, we confirm you that the threat is secured by AVG and you don't have to worry about this infection is still hiding on the hard drive.
If you wish to perform a deep scan and for rootkit then please go to advanced settings of AVG Scan and tick the check box to perform thorough and rootkit scan.
Please feel free to contact us if you need any assistance.
Hi, All,
I searched AVG Support about MalSign.Generic.EE6 but did not find anything.
I have concerns/questions about recently encountering MalSign.Generic.EE6 on my Windows PC.
SOME BACKGROUND:
I have two external hard disk drives that I keep unplugged from my PC whenever I am connected to the Internet. The two disks are for duplicate backup purposes only. I first disconnect from the Internet before using AVG Computer Scan to check out files that I created or downloaded to my PC's C drive before I copy them to my external drives. After the copies are done, I unplug the external drives from my PC before reconnecting to the Internet.
Periodically, I run AVG Computer Scan on my two external drives after first disconnecting my PC from the Internet.
There have been only a few times when AVG Scan had found a few files infected on the external drives, making me wonder how could that be: false positive(s)? or AVG Support updated threat database that finally found those threats?
MY CONCERNS:
AVG Detection first alerted me about MalSign.Generic.EE6 on one external drive's System Volume Information, to which I promptly clicked on "remove all" and it appeared that AVG successfully removed the threat on that external drive. Checking Resident Shield results, it showed status of "secured".
Several hours later, AVG Detection alerted me about MalSign.Generic.EE6 on the other external drive's System Volume Information, to which I again promptly clicked on "remove all" and it appeared that AVG successfully removed the threat on the second external drive. Checking Resident Shield results, it also showed status of "secured".
1. How can I know for sure that MalSign.Generic.EE6 truly is physically removed from my two external drives? Could it still be hiding in their System Volume Information or elsewhere on those two drives?
2. How can I know if my PC's C drive is not infected with MalSign.Generic.EE6? So far, no AVG Detection alerts for my C drive have occurred.
3. Can MalSign.Generic.EE6 be hiding elsewhere, such as in the registry or rootkit? How to rid that threat if it is elsewhere?
4. What does MalSign.Generic.EE6 do?
Thank you ahead for your help!
