Malware and virus steal pictures?

Hello Emil,

The Real-Time Protection feature provides automatic protection which checks computer systems for suspicious activity in real-time. It detects malicious objects, once they are accessed or started. This feature is running in the background without causing noticeable strain to your computer system.
Hence, if a threat is found, AVG Antivirus free/AVG Internet Security program will be able to catch it and decide whether it has to be moved to quarantine or delete at first instance.
Please visit this https://www.avg.com/free-antivirus-download official website to know the differences between basic and full version of AVG protection.
Feel free to contact us if you need further clarification.

Dear Balasubramania

First of all, sorry for bringing this old thread back to life.

The "The Real-Time Protection feature" is included in AVG free version?

Under Options > Basic protection

The Real-Time Protection feature, which on the following features does that concern:

Detections?

File-shield?

Web-shield?
Mail-shield?

Does the above features keep hackers out, or is that only a firewall?

Thank you again

Best regards
Emil

Hello Priyanga

Sorry for bringing this old thread back to life.
I could read on the internet, that the free version does not include a firewall. So what is the difference between "AVG AntiVirus free verson includes our intelligent antivirus features that detect viruses, malware, spyware, ransomware, phishing, and other threats in real-time." and a firewall?
And what does "in real-time" mean? The second something gets inside my system, then AVG will quarantine/ delete it?

Thanks again!

Hi Emil,

We're glad to help you with the info.
If you've an antivirus program with Firewall, then your computer would be protected against emerging threats & hackers.
The precautionary measures would be : Ignoring anonymous email attachment, ensure that you're downloading/installing an application from official websites & also ensure that it is not a bundled package (including additional software), ensuring that antivirus program has the latest patches applied to it, running regular scans.
However, upon checking your account, we're unable to find any active subscription of AVG. Please let us know if you're using AVG Free Antivirus.

Hello everyone

Several years ago, I was making bad descisions downloading series, movies etc. a couple of times each week, using torrents.

I have always used a fully updated AVG and Windows legal version, both with firewalls.

A couple of times, i have gotten notifications of treats that has been stopped or quarantied.

I assume that, through the years som virus and malware must have gotten through.

I have stored many pictures on my PC of my art drawings, my family and child, that holds a tremendous personal value to me. I am not the kind of person who posts pictures of my child on the internet. I would hate, that some person with bad or criminal intentions, would somehow get hold of these pictures and abuse them. I do not have sexual photos or anything that have any blackmail value.

I have read, what I could find on the internet about the topic. Especially this thread gave some good answers:

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/636129/how-often-do-viruses-steal-picturesvideos-off-your-computer/

As I could read on other sites aswell, some malware scan for picture file formats, and then sends them to the intruder.

My pictues are in jpeg, jpg and png format.

But I thought, that maybe some of you, could shed more light on the topic.

My questions now are:

Is it possible some virus or malware have stolen all my pictures?

What are the chances?

Wouldn’t it require alot of upload to steal a whole drive?

Wouldn’t it be very time inefficient to look the whole drive through manually?

If they stole anything, what would they steal? My art drawings? Pictures of my child?

I might just be paranoid, but I need some kind of realistic reaffirmation despite it might be difficult to give.

Thank you alot, for taking time to read all this and answer me.

Sorry about grammar, english is my second language.

Hey Dinesh,

Thank you for taking time to reply me.

I used AVG free antivirus at that time. I have used the paid version some years ago. Now I use the free version again, since supscription has run out. But the protection is the same?
