Hello Richard,
I regret for the inconvenience caused. Please be informed that if you have latest version of AVG Internet Security installed, there there is very less probability for your computer to be infected. Since, they have mentioned that your computer is infected, you could have contacted AVG Support and we would have checked and removed this threat from your computer without any data lose. Because at times, the other support might incorrectly find a genuine file as threat and that might have caused this confusion. Please let me know the name of the malware or file that was detected as threat in your computer? So, we can check the same and assist you further.
I had severe problems with my Win10, load of bugs, Win10 very slow, and many bugs with APPS. Microsoft done a remote access on the 23 June 17 and detected a bad malware virus on my PC. They tried to get rid of it, but during this access reg files were damaged and Win10 would NOT start or do a recovery. I had to format the HD and do a complete fresh install and all my apps. I also found that my secondary HD was damaged maybe by this malware, and had to pay for a recovery of my data, 140GBP. I do partially blame Microsoft for all this data loss, BUT WHY DID NOT AVG DETECT THIS? I AM VERY ANGRY WITH AVG BY THIS!!! What am I paying for AVG? This was a serious breach of my protection!
