I had the exact same problem. You will find an answer here that worked for me:

Hey all, I was having the same problem many of you described here. I could easily remove the extension via the Google Chrome task manager, but every time I restarted chrome, it the problem still persisted and I couldn't find the extension in the normal list of browser extensions.
What actually worked was installing Chrome Apps & Extensions Developer Tools (An official Chrome app)
This allowed me to see the unpacked extension and delete it directly. Hope this helps.
What you will do is click on "Chrome Apps" and click on the "Extensions" tab. Just hit uninstall when it shows up.
Thanks.
I have been googling for weeks and could only find how to remove it on a Mac/Safari. I tried again as you suggested and found a long manual method which I will try.

Eoin, For removal info have you 'googled' remove Max Adblock?..
No AV product is capable of providing you with 100% protection although AVG are always working 24/7.

AVG would recommend to start with uninstalling all unknown/unused programs and browser addons.

Every time I launch Chrome a hidden extension launchs. When it is running every 5 to 10 websites I visit I get redirected to other websites and also clears the history of that tab (the "click to go back" button is disables)
It is not visable in the extension settings and can only be seen if you go into the Chrome Task Manager where the process can be stopped and the redirects stop.
I have run AVG, Malwarebytes, Malicious software removal for Chrome / Windows and checked the Add/remove software control panel, but nothing is found.
If I reset chrome and manually check / delete all files in the Chrome extensions directory then Max Adblock does not load for a while, but manages to reinstall itself after a number of hours.
Does anyone know how to permanently delete this?
Thanks
