Message in notification tray

Please let us know the operating system of your computer & share us the screenshot of the notification to which you refer. 
However, from your message, it seems that you're referring the lock icon (AVG Secure VPN) with red dot when not connected & green dot when connected.
If so, then it would be displayed in the system tray, if you've set AVG Secure VPN to notify in system tray.

Does the Secure VPN normally show that it's connected to the Avast VPN in the notification tray? Mine does it intermittently. I've had the VPN for almost a year but, it didn't start showing that until about 4 months ago.
