David, we realize the situation.
We would like to kindly ask you to accept our apologies for the delay you may have experienced and for all the inconvenience caused.
The issue has already been escalated to our developers with high priority. Our developers are working on it and hopefully the root cause will be discovered shortly.
As of now, we cancelled auto-renewal service to avoid any further payments.
We appreciate your patience.
David, the activation code doesn't have any issue and the provided one is correct.
Let us check why this is happening. Could you share the screenshot of the error that is appearing after entering the code?
NOTE: Please share the screenshot through the email that we sent earlier.
David, in-order to escalate this to senior team, I requested you to check the version of AVG TuneUp.
We have sent an email for you to provide the version details of AVG TuneUp and Mac OS.
Could you connect your Mac to a different network than the one that you already use and try the activation?
Hello David,
The reason you are finding it difficult because some changes were made in our product.
As informed earlier, paid version for cleanup in Mac was introduced very recently and named as AVG TuneUp Premium for Mac.
The user who has subscribed for AVG Ultimate can make use of it on their Mac devices.
It seems that you are receiving campaigns to know about our AVG Secure VPN which helps to secure your online privacy.
The campaigns will have messages like "someone can see online" or "someone can know your location".
AVG Secure VPN is a standalone product which is not included in your Ultimate package.
If you would like to stop these notifications, open AVG Internet Security -> Menu -> settings -> General -> Personal Privacy -> Uncheck "Show offers for other AVG products" and "Show offers for third party products".
Sorry to hear that, David.
We would like to clarify that this AVG TuneUp premium for Mac product was introduced only on April 2019.
Though you have AVG Ultimate, it can be used only for unlimited Windows and Android devices. For Mac, we had only the free version of AVG Antivirus and AVG Cleaner.
Since we released this tuneup premium for Mac recently, we suggest you to use the Ultimate subscription and activate it on Mac.
We request you to check whether the AVG tuneUp premium installed on your Mac shows this version (AVG 19.1.1209).
Keep us posted.
You have never atually answered my question about stopping annoying (and inaccurate) statements about me being 'not as secure as I think' and it seems to turn out that I have, in fact, been paying premium rates for a basic product for at least two years - yet you want me to pay more to get rid of the inaccurate sales pitches.
I took out a subscription with another company which does offer proper support for Mac computers - in fact at a slightly lower cost so please stop sending messages about renewing my cover, it isnt going to happen.
For the complete avoidance of doubt, I do not wish to renew my cover and you do not, under any circumstances have my permission to do so (unless you want to offer at least two years free cover by way of apology)
Hi,
I tried re-installing TuneUp and, with little suprise to me, got exactly the same error message, as shown in the screen shot above!
On checking my records I see that I originally subscribed to AVG Ultimate in November 2015 so it seems that I have not been getting what I pay for for 4 years. Deeply unimpressed!
Thanks for your reply - but - on the AVG interface I get (Macbook Pro) there is no menu option, had there been I would have probably sorted it out long ago. Where do I find the 'menu'?
So, almost three months after my original complaint nothing has changed regarding incorrect advertising statements in AVG "Ultimate" .
I now have a working copy of Clean up, which, apparently Ive been paying for but didn't know I had BUT (see your JULY 18 reply) clicking the options for no product advertising in clean up, unsuprisingly, has no effect on advertising in antivirus - which still totally inaccurately tells me that I'm not as private as I think - whilsy often then quoting a location hundreds of miles from my actual location!
Ok - I give up!
Way back near the start of this conversation your operative suggested that I have the false advertising problem because I am using the basic version of AVG
David, thank you for sharing the screenshots. You are not seeing this option because you are using a basic version of AVG AntiVirus. You have an active subscription for AVG Ultimate which includes AVG TuneUp Premium for Mac. I'd request to install and activate it to see the option to opt out from receiving ads for other AVG products. I have sent an email containing instructions to install and activate AVG TuneUp Premium.
The rest of the coversation seems to have arisen from the (clearly misguided) suggestion thar installing 'CleanUp' would alow me to switch off ads.
No one gets remote access to my Mac (though I suspect that you are, once again referring to remote access to a PC)
As it has become clear, during this conversation, that your company does not really have a proper product for Mac - despite charging me for the 'ultimate' product for several years , I think I will seek out a company who does have a product properly intended for my computer.
Hi,
Despite my complaining about inaccurate statements appearing under my AVG control panel they still continue BUT much more irritating is that ‘drop down’ messages have started to appear on Safari pages telling me (incorrectly) that “I’m not as private as I think”. My location is shown as London! and I’m told my connection is not encrypted - neither of these statements is true, I’m currently at leas 200 miles from London and my connection IS encrypted - not by AVG but still encrypted.
I really have had enough of these irritations - if they continue I WILL take my business to a different company.
Regards
David Manford
Just to say that if these (inaccurate) marketing messages keep appearing I shall not be renewing my subscription.
Hi David.
We're sorry for the delay in responding. I'd like to inform that there was a license issue which is the reason for activation failed error. We're glad to inform that the issue has been resolved and request to try activating AVG TuneUp premium using the same activation code, it should work.
OK so I downloaded the file from the link you emailed and installed the program - when run it asks for an activation code which I cut and paste from youe email.
Result :- Activation Failed, wrong or inaccurate activation code!!!
Downloaded again, installed again, result the same!
Not terribly impressed so far…
This isn't the experience we want you to have, David.
Would you be so kind to help us with the screenshot of the 'Preference' window to get better clarity of the options available?
Arghhhh! Please read the whole string of messages above!!!
There is no 'menu' option on the MAC version of AVG Antivirus so apparently no option to stop these totally inacurate messages. So three months after my original complaint we have made NO progress whatever.
Wtth respect I believe I mentioned above that the problem I have is on a Macbook!! No windows installed, so how do I get rid of annoying, inaccurate marketing on a MAC device???
David, the instructions provided in our previous message are for Mac OS. Please attempt them and let us know if the issue persists.
Thank you for sharing us the screenshots, David.
As this isn't the usual behavior of the activation process, we need to check this with the next level of support. Once we hear from them, we'll write back to you. We request you to allow some time.
Thank you for your understanding in advance!
Thanks for your reply. So for half the year I've not had the benefit of what I paid for? Great!!
