I appreciate your efforts and patience so far. If you are using Private Network at home, then you should change the network profile setting to private to browse and allow the applications to work. If you are using public network/WiFi you can change it to public. I have sent you an email, please follow the email instructions to get in touch with the remote support. They will analyze the issue with AVG and fix it, free of cost.
I tried the below but my adapter still would not work unless I physically switched Firewall on and off?
The first setting not sure what I should b changing to private??
The second setting was straight forward all set to enabled?
Any further ideas

I regret to hear about the inconvenience this may have caused to you. Please check if AVG firewall is configured with below recommended settings or not.
Open AVG Internet Security->Menu->Settings->Components->Firewall->Customize->Network Profile and change it to Private.
Open AVG Internet Security->Menu->Settings->Components->Firewall->Customize->Policies->System Rules and set all rules to "Enabled".
Make sure the above settings are applied and let us know if the issue persist.
