I am running AVG Business 21.8.3202 (build 21.8.6586.695) and have been using it for two years. I regularly connect from my Win 10 computer to server via a standard MS PPTP firewall VPN. About two weeks ago the VPN connection suddenly stopped being allowed with error message
The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity. Please try to reconnect to the VPN server. If this problem persists, contact the VPN administrator and analyze quality of network connectivity.
I can make connection if I disable AVG Enhanced Firewall. So I know the AVG is stopping the connection.
I have checked AVG Settings, Full Protection, System Rules and this shows Allow VPN connection via PPTP = enabled.
Can you advise what I should do to fix this problem?
We sincerely apologize for the difficulties you are currently experiencing.
Please temporarily disable the AVG Internet Security on your PC and check the VPN connection again.
If you're able to access it, when the AVG Internet Security is turned off, then proceed to disable the AVG components one by one and narrow down the AVG component which causing this issue.
Keep us informed.
AVG will not let me use Microsoft 10 VPN to access my homerouter (with VPN server) from external network (WIFI)
It has worked for many years so it must be some updates. If i turn of AVG security it works fine and also when setting upp the VPN from home network.
Hi,
did you ever find a solution to mentioned problem above? We are currently experiencing the same issue in our company and would appreciate a fix for the issue.
We've also narrowed the problem down to the AVG firewall refusing the connection when the network is set to "public" ("Na veřejnosti" in czech). To set all public networks to "private" ("V soukromí" in czech) is not acceptable.
We are running AVG Business AntiVirus, 21.8.3202 (build 21.8.6586.695).
Many thanks in advance!
Hi,
did you ever find a solution to Bo's problem? We are currently experiencing the same issue in our company since a couple of weeks/months, and would appreciate a fix for the issue.
We've narrowed the problem down to the AVG firewall refusing the connection when the network is set to "public". Issuing a company-wide memo urging the employees to set all public networks to "private" is not an option.
Many thanks in advance!
Hi Bo,
We're sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Please open AVG Internet Security program on your Windows PC.
Click on "Payments" window and turn off "Fake Website Shield" component.
Please check whether Microsoft VPN is working post this.
If yes, please check whether AVG Internet Security is updated to 21.6 by referring to this article (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Update-AVG-Antivirus).
If not, please update to the latest version and check the status with Fake website shield turned on.
Keep us apprised about the status.
Hi again
This option was already enabled and I have tried all options and still the VPN connection does´t work.
Did the same with PPTP alternative with same result.
Regards

Hi Björn,
We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
However, changing the network profile of AVG Internet Security from 'Public' to 'Private' seems to resolve this issue.
To further investigate, we request you to get back to us in your own/new post, so that we can provide appropriate assistance via email.
Thank you for understanding in advance!
Appreciate your efforts in identifying the component that is blocking the VPN access, Bo.
We may need to modify few firewall settings to fix this. To do so :
Open AVG Internet Security - Menu - Settings - Full protection - Enhanced firewall - System rules - Enable 'Allow VPN connections via L2TP-IPSec' & let us know if it helps.
