Everytime it boots it keeps getting hung up when loading the AVG files.This leads me to believe that something in the AVG Anti Virus is causing it to freeze the loading of the operating system.
I have some forensic programs that can rip the data off the drive but it makes a merry mess of the files and for the amount of stuff my friend has on her work laptop it would not be easy to straighten out.

Please run AVG remover tool : http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe to completely uninstall your AVG program from your PC.
