Minor yet annoying bug

Hi Patrick, thanks for the tip!

Patrick,

Please open AVG Anti Virus, click on Menu -> About. Then let us know the 'Software version' that you see on About page.

I'm afraid James' suggestion didn't work. The icon still shows up.

So I am having the same issue with the CAvgTrayIcon. I have tried every suggestion, (ie: uninstall/reinstall using the remove and clean tools, checking the load only after other system resources, reboot, uncheck, reboot) yet I am still not able to get rid of the 'open app' icon on my taskbar.
Any further suggestions?

Nope, still shows up.

@James Doyen: Your solution worked for me on a Win 7 m/c.

Patrick,

Could you let me know the version of AVG app that you are using?

Thank you BV for your reply.  I will get round to doing as you say when I have a few minutes.
I should have added, that the cavgtrayicon only reappears on the task bar after I have reinstalled AVG Free, and then re-booted.  It did not appear (after re-boot) after I'd used AVG Clear.  Only after AVG Free had been re-installed.

Hello Edward,

I can understand your frustration.

I've sent you an email with further instructions to send us the diagnostics from your computer so that we can escalate the case to our Senior Team to analyze the AVG logs and provide you with a resolution for the issue. Please check your mailbox once.

Nope, still shows up.

Okay, so CAvgTrayIcon is closable if you go into task manager and the applications tab in it, as what Chris posted earlier. I also took note of James' post and set the antivirus to load after the other system services load, so hopefully that takes care of that little issue.

Hello Patrick,
I understand the inconvenience caused, let's work together to fix this issue. Please share a screenshot of that icon/window to assist  you further and also let me know the AVG program which you have installed on your computer. You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Best regards,
Alok.

Patrick,
Keep us informed about the status to assist further.
Have a nice day!

Thank you for providing screenshot Patrick,
In this case, I request you to remove AVG completely along with any previous traces using the AVG clear tool/AVG Remover tool and then do a fresh installation of AVG Free Antivirus. This will ensure that none of the previous traces of AVG are left on your computer and you have an updated version. Please follow the instruction ( http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product ) to run AVG Remover tool and AVG Clear tool. After the computer reboots, please follow the instruction to download/install AVG Free Antivirus.
Best regards,
Alok.
