Miracast Blocked

I know this is a really old issue, but is still an issue.  I'm using Windows 11, MS Surface Pro 6, AVG Business.  So, I turned off the firewall and it works perfectly.  I discovered that when I turn off the AVG firewall, the Defender firewall activates automatically.  So, at least I still have firewall protection.  I tried all the solutions offered and nothing worked.  Then, when I tried to connect to my local server, I couldn't connect.  So, I went back and reset AVG firewall Basic Rules to default.  I was then able to access my local network, but the Miracast was now working.  I had previously enabled all the basic rules for a private network without success.  So, I disabled them.  When I reset to defaults, 2 rules were enabled.  1.) Allow incoming file and printer sharing over SMB protocol, and 2.) Allow remote desktop (RDP) connections.  AVG staff really should try to figure this out.  Hope my experience helps.

I'm having this issue today with Internet Security 2020. I have set the Network profile to "Private" but how do I set the rules to "Enabled" in the current version??
Open AVG Internet Security->Menu->Settings->Components->Firewall->Customize->Policies->System Rules and set all rules to "Enabled"

Hi,

AVG Internet Security 2017 seems to block "WUDFHost.exe" and prevent a Miracast connection / connection to Smart TVs. I never had this issue with the 2016 version of the programme but since I upgraded to 2017 last year I've had the issue. I've put up with for a while but have now decided that if I can't get it to work I will cancel my AVG subscription and uninstall the programme; shifting to a competitor's product.

How do I know it is AVG causing the issue? Because if I disable the firewall the connection to the Miracast device works… As soon as I re-enable the firewall the connection the Miracast device ceases.

I've got the following firewall walls setup for WUDFHost.exe:

  • Internet Out - Allow - TCP/UDP - Out
  • Internet In - Allow - TCP/UDP - In
  • Default Rule - Allow - All - In/Out
And still the only way I can make the connection to the Miracast device is to disable the firewall.

Any suggestions on how this can be solved without disabling the firewall?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, Alan.
Please check if AVG firewall is configured with below settings or not.

Open AVG Internet Security->Menu->Settings->Components->Firewall->Customize->Network Profile and change it to Private.
Open AVG Internet Security->Menu->Settings->Components->Firewall->Customize->Policies->System Rules and set all rules to "Enabled".

Make sure the above settings are applied and let us know if the issue persist.

Hi,

thanks. Using your comment as a guide I eventually got it to work. For others that read this, I did one thing different. Instead of setting the rules to "Enabled" I set it to "Ask". Also, to identify the relevant network I had to delete all of the unknown connections and attempt to make a new connection to the Miracast device. When the unknown connection reappeared I inferred it was the Miracast (it came up as Local Area Connection *4 (Adapter)).

It is a bit disappointing this issue still exists some 3yrs after people were first having reporting it, and that we are still having to resort to the forum for solution. However, at least there is a solution…

Cheers,

Alan
