Hi Chloe,
We're glad to look into this & help you.
Upon researching we see that the WinSXS folder contains every operating system file (as you've found). When Windows installs updates, it drops the new Windows component in the WinSXS folder and keeps the old component in the WinSXS folder.
Hence, the detected file seems to be an older update file. Reason being, if it is an essential system file, the computer wouldn't boot. You might have experienced issues with your operating system.
To ensure this & for better clarity, we may need to investigate further on this. Would you be so kind to share us the screenshot of AVG's quarantine?
Also, let us know the operating system of your computer.
I looked through my quarantine and avg detected a “Win32:Trojan-gen” in “C:\Windows\WinSxS\wow64_windows-xpsreachviewer_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17134.254_none_010e7e55d8b40415\xpsrchvw.exe” I googled the file name “xpsrchvw.exe” and the internet says it is an important file and could be dangerous to delete it. It is currently in quarantine, is this a dangerous file or was this a mistake on AVG’s behalf?
