I am also having this problem, it pops up every 10 seconds or so, seriously impeding me doing anything on my computer - help!
Vince, please navigate to the location mentioned in the quarantined file to check if the "MRT" file exist in that location.
Hi again, Vince.
Thank you for waiting.
We have resolved this false positive issue already on 10th Sept 2018.
I recommend you to update your AVG product, restart your device and check with the issue.
Hello Vince,
Since, your query was posted under " Roberto Sonzogni " topics, we couldn't locate your account.
When we tried to locate your account using first & Last name, it shows multiple records and I am not sure which is related to your's.
It seems original files from quarantine list has been restored or deleted. We recommend you to remove all those temp files from Quarantine list and perform a reinstallation of MRT file to check if that helps.
Anyone with MacOS:Genieo-FM false positive ?
AVG tells my MRT.app is infected, other malware scanning apps tell that is clean.
Help ?
Thank you for sharing us the screenshot.
We will escalate this case to our senior team to analyse the issue and to help you in resolving it.
Once we get the response from our senior team we will keep you posted about it. Your patience is appreciated in this matter.
So you're sure it's a false positive?
Ah, looks like it's still there, which explains why AVG kept on trying to remove it over and over. So what do we do about the hundreds of quarantined 'items' that don't really exist?

I cannot understand why you are unable to locate my account as it is accepted when i log on. perhaps its because im on AVG free? I have been onto the link given & filled in another form! Is it so difficult to resolve an issue that AVG created. I"ll await a response from your senior support team perhaps they might be able to help. Surely i'm not the only one that cannot restore the file that AVG quarantined!!
With Apples latest software Mojave availble I'm reluctant to install unless it will resolve this and replace the MRT file that AVG have appeared to have removed.
I await your comments.

Hi Karthikeyan
I have already tried to navigate to the location as mentioned in the quarantine file but have been unable to establish the root path - guidance would be appreciated. If the MRT app/file as been removed to quarantine how can it be restored.
I have a MacOS running High Sierra software version 10.13.6.
How do you update AVG?
Hi Fran,
Don't worry. This is a false positive, meaning that the file is not contaminated. Your AVG Anti-Virus will receive an update shortly; the latest update 'knows' that the file is not contaminated — it fixes the false positive.
For now, hang in there for the update and ignore the warning. Do not try to delete any files.
Please double-check that your AVG Anti-Virus is setup to receive automatic definitions updates. I had the same problem and can confirm that the latest update fixes this false positive issue.
Best,
Harry.
I have the same issue as Fran - tried to restore but told " sorry were unable to restore this file- please check if the folder your trying to restore still exists"
How do I know if the MRT app/ folder is still installed on my Mac.
The latest issue of AVG I have is 18.4 which I understand is the latest
