MRT - MacOS:Genieo-FM [Adw]

Since the file that was quarantined was MRT, Apple's malware removal tool, do you recommend restoring the file from the quarantine since it was a false threat?

Hi Support community - I am hoping you can help me!

I am running a Macbook pro with High Sierra 10.13.4 and AVG Anti Virus Free installed. Everything has been fine until I booted up my computer this evening and the Antivirus pops up with a window saying:

'Multiple Threats Secured We've moved MRT to your Quarantine because it was infected with MacOS:Genieo-FM [Adw].'

It keeps showing the same message and securing the threat over and over again, it is currently on 79 of 79 and earlier reached 148 before I rebooted my computer. WI have tried searching my Mac for MRT file name, but nothing appears, as far as I know I haven't downloaded anything today, but when I used the computer and it first start showing it, I was at my girlfriends parents house on  WIFI network I haven't used for a while.

Can anyone advise how I can stop this and permanently remove any threat?!

I can't work out how to attach a screenshot to this, but more than happy to provide if someone can tell me how!

Many thanks in advance!

Lee

Abby,

Yes you can restore those files back from quarantine as the threat alerts are declared as false positive.
