I did the following after disabling my Internet connection:
1. I saved my settings using [Menu > Settings > Troubleshooting].
2. I used your avgclear.exe version 22.9.7554 to remove AVG AntiVirus Free.
3. I used my archived complete (not stub) installer for avg_antivirus_free_setup_offline.exe version 22.9.3254 to install AVG AntVirus Free.
4. I restored my saved settings.
5. I rebooted my PC.
6. After enabling my Internet connection and updating virus definitions, I did a deep scan for viruses.
Now, when I use Microsoft's Task Manager, I still see three instances of AVGUI.exe. A search of all my drives results in only one file named AVGUI.exe, version 22.9.7554, sized 18,776,320 bytes. (I use the Everything Seach Engine from [http://www.voidtools.com/].) The only instance of AVGUI.exe in Task Manager that used any CPU time is sized 2,824 KB. The other two instances are sized 3,832 KB and 2,216 KB. Selecting each instance in Task Manager one at a time, right-clicking, and selecting Open File Location in the pull-down context menu, the result was uniformly the one file AVGUI.exe found during my search of my drives.
Attempts to terminate the two AVGUI.exe processes that used no CPU time failed with the error popup "The action could not be completed. Access is denied."
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
AVG AntiVirus Free 22.9.3254 (build 22.9.7554.0)
When I launch Windows Task Manager, I see three instances of AVGUI.exe. Only one has consumed any CPU time, but all three occupy various amounts of memory. Are three instances really necessary? What will happen if I terminate the two that have not consumed any CPU time?
