Multiple questions on AVG 2017, sorry

Can't seem to find actual answers to these things, so made an account to post.

Been using AVG Free for years, had the 2016 version until today. Running Windows 7 Pro on an HP desktop.

Made the mistake of installing AVG Free 2017 today, Feb 21/22. That went ok, liked the extra new protection, but after running the 'Performance scan', once from the main menu, then again from the 'fix performance' button, it comes up with the various sections of my computer that have junk/error files, as before, but now you can't SEE all the files? Nothing but a generic list of the sections they're in, but no way to see the list like before? WHY would you change that feature, and still call it 'FIX performance'? Can't fix anything if we don't get the list of stuff to remove.

So it has the 'FIX IT' button for the download for PC Tuneup. Did not do that as I see tons of complaints about PC Tuneup. Eventually got tired of trying to find out if the only way to view the found junk files is to have to use PC Tuneup, AND if after the free trial, does it leave a 'free' version that will still do the basic finding of junk files and registry errors (and show you the list?)? That info is missing from everywhere it should be (hello AVG web people, put that info with the PC Tuneup description so people know EXACTLY what they're left with if they don't pay after the free trial!), and even AVG answer people here have given conflicting replies.

Found google results about AVG Performance Free from last year, with PC Tuneup included, but apparently that's gone now.

So decided to uninstall 2017 free, and of course it had overwritten 2016. Looked and looked to see if anywhere trustworthy had legit downloads of AVG Free 2016, didn't trust what I found. Old links to that file on this and the old AVG forum from AVG employee's posts have been replaced by the new 2017 version, which I had to go thru that installation procedure again before I was sure which version was downloaded.

Is Filehippo safe? Is there anywhere trustworthy that has AVG Free/Protection 2016 still?

Tried 2 different system restore points to go back supposedly before I uninstalled AVG 2016 earlier tonight, but that didn't get me back far enough for some reason. Eventually did a system restore back to the last auto-restore point of Feb 16, and while the AVG 2016 desktop shortcut was back, and the files all appeared to be returned and dated correctly, it won't open. I get the error that 'the product doesn't exist,' with error code 0xE001F90F . Tried opening the setup.exe part too, no good. It goes thru the setup and download procedure, but still get the error message. None of the suggested stuff from the help link helped.

I have a working copy of 2016 in my XP Mode VM, so tried copying that folder to W7. It wouldn't overwrite the current one due to a message about 'it's open in another folder or program' for the last 18 files, but it wasn't that I could see (had closed XP mode too, nothing was open in W7, no AVG processes were running), so deleted that folder from 'program files' and then pasted the XP one in there, but it still wouldn't open. Tried the setup.exe, keeps saying the program doesn't exist. But not sure how many other AVG folders I may need to copy over, I only used the main one under Program files. Also tried entering the license # from the XP one in the W7 one when I got a box 1 time that said it didn't recognize my license # and to enter a new one etc, but it said I wasn't entering a complete number, but I had the whole set. Seems it only recognizes the paid version's 6 sets of 5 characters, and not the free's 5 sets. Not a computer geek, so got tired after 7 hours of screwing with this. Pretty cheesed system restore didn't restore AVG.

Keeping my registry clean is one of the main things I like and do with AVG, and I can't understand why the 'fix performance' feature has been neutered with the 2017 version, unless mine was just not working right, but nothing was hyperlinked or had 'expand' arrows to open the results to see ALL the files.

So, help me find a legit 2016 version, or answer about whether PC Tuneup is now required to see all the files we used to be able to see from the performance scan (why have that if you HAVE to use PC Tuneup to see the files?), and what PC Tuneup does, if anything, after the 30 day trial.
Thanks!

Hi,
well, I KNOW Fix Performance is in the 2017 version, the problem is that unlike previous versions, the results do not show all the actual files that need cleaning, which again, is NOT an improvment, and again, doesn't do us any good. Why bother to have it? Shouldn't have to pay for another program to do what you used to provide for free before being bought by Avast.

Hopefully someone will answer soon about "Is there anywhere trustworthy that has AVG Free/Protection 2016 still?" so I can decide whether to use another anti-virus program or go with the 2017 one and find another free cleaner program, I know they're out there.

Hello Charles,
We understand your query regarding "Fix Performance" in free version of AVG Protection. This feature to view all the junk files will be listed in 2017 version as well. You can try to run the scan again. However, to fix this issues, you need to purchase a new AVG PC TuneUp program. The PC TuneUp trial works only one time and after that you will not be able to use that product anymore. Eventhough you have 30 days trial, you can use the AVG PC TuneUp features only once. After that the trial version cannot be used anymore and you need to purchase pro version or delete the trial from your computer.
Thank you

guess no one is going to follow up? but it seems the stealing focus problem stopped yesterday, not sure why. I did change the 'info' notifications setting to 0 seconds, did some other tests, and still had the problem. Although I closed and opened the browser a few times, I did not reboot, so maybe rebooting made something work. 1 time the screen blinked and the title bar went gray for a split second and then it went back to blue. stayed on 1 page for over an hour while doing something else and it didn't lose focus, and was ok the rest of the evening too, so yay. just wish I knew what fixed it, and hope it stays fixed.

then today I get 1 of those survey emails from AVG, and it's addressed in the body to Karthikeyan!
Really? The system can't identify the correct poster?

Not impressed with the support as they answered only 1 thing, so that's my review. Noticed there was a big update to the program today, haven't run a scan to see if they added back the ability to see the performance scan files yet, probably not. Bye.

so as usual, the thread dies out with no further answers from AVG. I've answered most of the questions myself, and Alan has, but would still like to know this:

Karthikeyan said: "We understand your query regarding "Fix Performance" in free version of AVG Protection. This feature to view all the junk files will be listed in 2017 version as well."

Well, it's not, unless he was referring to PC Tuneup. So, will you add back the ability to view ALL the junk/registry files that the Performance Scan used to show us, or not? Am I the only 2017 user that's complained about this missing feature? Performance Scan is useless without it, and you shouldn't name the button 'FIX performance' when you can't fix anything after the results.

ok, thanks Alan. I had been able to move some programs from my old XP computer to the new one via flash drive and copy/paste, but they didn't have so many folders in various places, and somehow they worked (some were outdated and not available to install new any more).

don't you know the answers to my other questions about the performance scans? will probably have to go find a free similar program that doesn't mess with Firefox (been warned off CCleaner) and install AVG 2017, unless Avast's Cleanup feature shows me the files like AVG used to, but doubt it, since it's the same company now. am awaiting a reply from them about that.

off for a while now…

I KNOW AVG 2016 is not available thru avg.com, and I know you can't guarantee any 3rd party site's version will be safe, but maybe another user can tell me if they know of one. I do not have any AVG version currently installed in my W7 part.

Avinash said "Though the trial version is expired, you must see the results of the scan." ok, but for how long does that work? 30 days? I will not pay for PC Tuneup when there's good free registry/file cleaners available, sorry. Just trying avoid adding yet another program to do what AVG used to have for free. You've had PC Tuneup to buy for a long time, and I didn't need PC Tuneup to do the work, as the last few versions of AVG Free's 'fix performance' scan allowed me to see all the files detected, and I do not understand why the 2017 version doesn't. DID YOU REMOVE THAT FEATURE of that performance scan?

Will someone please ANSWER these questions I already asked?:
Is there a way to VIEW ALL the detected files in the AVG Free 2017 version from the Performance scan that I don't see, WITHOUT HAVING TO USE PC TUNEUP? I can use regedit to remove the files, but not without the list of files! Is that something that's not currently in the 2017 version, but will be? Because Karthikeyan said: "We understand your query regarding "Fix Performance" in free version of AVG Protection. This feature to view all the junk files will be listed in 2017 version as well."
He said 'ALL', so is that possible without needing PC Tuneup, or is he just wrong?

And is there a method that's not hugely technical and complicated to copy and transfer my XP Mode AVG 2016 version to my W7 system, so it will work?

quick update in the wee hours…

tried system restore again, cuz ya never know with windows when something will work the 2nd time, but same as last time, no joy. the AVG 2016 shortcut opens a dialog box that says it doesn't recognize my license number, yadda yadda. So uninstalled 2016, used the AVG remover tool too, rebooted, tried system restore again back to Feb 16, the only date it gives me (no, I don't have a system image backup, shoot me), same results. Tried that because I could still find parts of the 2017 version in the AVG folders before the 1st system restore try, so thought maybe that was messing up the restored older version. Nope.

So downloaded the 2017 version so I had some better protection while I await various answers from various places.

Ran the Perormance scan again, and same as before–it shows the list of total file size in various parts, you can 'open' those to see the 'general' list of how much KBs/MBs is in which areas, but nothing else to click to show the actual files so you can go delete what you want yourself. So there's 300mbs of stuff sitting there, most was in setup logs/cache files. XP has a far faster search for that stuff than W7, but guess I can try that when I feel like waiting for 10 minutes for it to search 1 folder.

Just don't understand this change in info provided…

Chuck,
We could not guarantee the installation files will come clean when you download them from a third party website. That is the reason we suggest you to download AVG installation files from our official website only.

Alan,
well, that's only for AVG's official site. I found a supposed download for the 2016 version on tomsguide.com, wondering if that's safe and
is actually the 2016 version tho. Know of any other legit safe sites that may have it? I checked out some 'is it safe' reviews for filehippo and others, and no, all seem to install adware/bloat crap. Checked out Avast Free, it has the Cleanup utility (free trial then you need a paid version to do the work, just like with PC Tuneup), but they also don't say if shows you ALL the files it finds like AVG used to, so have emailed them to see. This is so annoying to have to deal with…
Is there a way to copy and transfer my 2016 version in my XP Mode virtual machine to my windows 7 part?
