@ AVG-Team,
when is the Update available?
is it a false positive? What is your solution? What did we (users) do?

system: OSSierra, 10.12.6
same problem/ threat found „cryptonight [tr]]“/ not able to delete
scanning with malewarebytes: no threat found…

Hello,

I have the same issue. JS:Cryptonight [Trj] discovered on my computer (Mac OS X 10.12.6). I scaned the computer and put the file to quarantine. After that I deleted the file. Later I discovered a new virus: HTML:Script-inf. I performed the same steps. After that I had JS:Cryptonight [Trj] again on my computer . I read on an Avast forum that it could be a false positive? Avast Community (also very recent post)

Will AVG be updated? Do we need to be in worry?

I look forward to be hearing from you.

Hi I have this issue with my Mac too. I am unable to delete or quarantine. What should I do?

Hi, I have this issue too
Im running MacOS Sierra 10.12.6
I think I'm running the paid version of AVG Internet Security for Mac, but its not showing in my account due to the system upgrade?
I ran AVG tonight and it detected this twice which I was able to quarantine. Interstingly I ran Malwarebytes before running AVG and it didnt pick it up. Here are the two paths:

How can this be removed so it doesnt come back as per the issue others are having?

Thank you.

Hello community,

I just ran my AVG and this item was found multiple times when I scanned.

JS:Cryptonight [Tri]

What is it and how can I get rid of it? It's in quarantine right now.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Hi I have this issue with my Mac too. I am unable to delete or quarantine. What should I do?

Bryony,
I regret to hear about that. May I know which version of AVG and Mac OS are you using?

Hello JJ,

I understand how difficult this is for you. This issue is reported as false positive and we have already escalated this case to the concerned team. This should get resolved in future updates. Your patience is much appreciated.

Does anyone from AVG have an update for us? I keep getting the warning regarding the virus everytime I run a scan and occasionally the AVG scan will quit unexpectedly like others have mentioned.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Have a great day.

I am having the same issue that Joe and Bill have reported.

I'm using AVG antivirus on my new iMac. When running MAC scanner, two threats are found. Most of the time AVG antivirus will quit running once it reaches 99 percent scan.

The message is: AVG AntiVirus quit unexpectedly. Click reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.

If the AVG antivirus software does actually complete a scan (about one time out of 8 attempts), the threat is identified as:

JS:Cryptonight [TR]

The screen shot that was posted is what I am seeing as well.

Using AVG antivirus, the file is put into quarantine and I delete it. However, when I run Mac scan again with AVG antivirus, the software either quits or the "threats" are still there.

I have restarted my iMac multiple times, have check that the software is updated, and scanned again with the threats still there.

You may have to run malwarebytes and adwcleaner to try and get rid of that one. The links are below.

Yes, Joe. Please right-click on the file and copy the complete path and paste it in here.

Joe, thank you for the screenshot. We need to escalate the case to the senior team for getting a suggestion. We would need the complete path - all folders and filename which should be visible in the details of the detection.
As . You can copy the path by right-clicking on the detection path and pasting it to email or to any text file by the standard way.
