Hello, John.
I do understand the inconvenience you have faced. Are you receiving the threat detection pop up from AVG? May I know if it is a free version or paid version of AVG anti virus that you are using? Please be informed that it could be fake pop ups you receive while browsing which says your computer is infected and ask you to call a number for help. Do not call that number or grant remote access to those people which makes things even worse.
Please review unwanted add ons on your web browser and remove them. And also uninstall the unwanted programs installed.
See above, how do I remove it? I am unable to perform certain tasks, like Recovery, and keep receiving a notice that AVG is OUTDATED. It all happened when a "Windows" notice blocked my computer and required control of computer.

Yes, John. You can certainly take a backup of your data and clean your hard drive. Once this is done, purchase a new subscription of AVG Internet Security, which will provide you complete protection.
