I have to turn on the Password protection every time I restart my computer. I have read the forums with some posts going as far back as early 2020 and it seems this has been a known issue. Has AVG fixed this, or are they working on fixing it anytime soon?

There is an ongoing issue with Password protection feature & the concerned team is already working on it to fix it shortly.
However, you can be rest assured that the protection level of your computer isn't compromised.
Meanwhile, performing a clean installation is the workaround provided.
