My webpages are being hijacked by something called "http://u.hd-lives.com/". I don't even know what it is, whether it's malware, spyware, a virus or what

For the past few days, almost every website I go to gets hijacked to another webpage that will tell me that my flash player needs updated (which it doesn't) or I am under a phishing attack, or that I am unprotected and need antivirus protection.  My husband and I are moderately tech capable and we have both tried everything over the past few days.  I checked my Chrome extensions and there weren't any.  I ran Spybot and found a few adwares and fixed those.  Then I installed AVG and it found a few things and took care of them and had intercepted about a third of these redirects, but not all of them.  Sometimes these pages ask me to download something, other times, they start autodownloading.  I have deleted about three dozen of these autodownloads.  My husband went through and cleared out almost everything.  When I Google this URL that seems to be behind it, every page says to either do about 100 steps to clear everything from everywhere…OR…you can easily remove it with SpyHunter!  Why do I get the feeling that this is a scam just to get SpyHunter more business?  Anyone have any suggestions because I am about to start caveman reboot  = bash the laptop against the wall…
