I can now ping in either direction. That is, A -> B and B->A
I have several computers on my network. Call two of them A and B. From A I can ping B. From B I CANNOT ping A.
I need these two computers to talk.
I can ping in either direction with the vpn turned off. Now, What?
Sherril, this is expected behavior with all VPN software.
This is because VPN masks the original IP address of the device and used the VPN server's IP address.
I have no interest in a pissing contest but I would appreciate a suggestion of how I can achieve a fair amount of security and still be able to use the resources on my network.
Thank you for updating the status, Sherril.
If you're able to communicate with the other computer when AVG firewall is disabled, then we can modify few settings in AVG Firewall.
Open AVG Internet Security - Menu - Settings - Full protection - Enhanced firewall - System rules - Enable 1st 2 options (Allow windows file & printer sharing, remote desktop connections) & let us know if it helps.
Is that the end of it?
If I can't use my computers with the vpn turned on, why buy the subscription to the vpn?
Sherril, before proceeding further, we'd request you to do another troubleshooting step.
Turn on AVG Secure VPN on both computers but disable firewall in AVG Internet Security on either computers. Let us know what is the status.
So, what do you recommend?
I can ping in either direction with the vpn turned off. Now, What?
Hello Sherril.
We're here to help.
Do you have AVG Secure VPN and AVG Internet Security installed on both devices? I see that you have active subscription for AVG Secure VPN.
Usually, communication between two nodes in same network is not possible if a VPN software is installed and turned on.
So if you have AVG Secure VPN installed, turn it off and verify.
