I understand the inconvenience. Have you tried to disable firewall component and check the status? If the issue is with the firewall, then follow the below mentioned steps to check if it fixes the issue :
1) Open AVG Internet Security dashboard, click on "Menu–>Settings-- >Components–>Firewall–>Customize"
2) To the right of "Policies" scroll down to click on "System Rules"
3) Enable the option for "Windows file sharing and printing", "allow remote desktop connection" and the last entry "Enable stealth mode"> Click ok.
4) Below "Policies", click on "Network Profiles", to the right click on the network connection and change the profile to "Private" if it is set to "Public".
Something is blocking my downloading new emails with Thunderbird. The suggestion is that it is AVG’s firewall. How do you access the firewall settings - the AVG page on the subject has a screen totally different to that seen on my screen. How do I access the firwall and what should I do when I get there?
